Going from 0 to 192 users in monthly organic search traffic

Hey all,

I wanted to share how we grew our old website from 0 to 192 users in monthly organic search traffic primarily through a single blog post.

Here's a more detailed article if you're interetsed:
https://www.publishzen.com/blog/going-from-0-to-192-monthly-users-in-organic-search-traffic

1) Get content ideas from your users

Through conversations with your users you should come to understand what their journey through your product is. For us, we intimately grew to understand how people went from thinking of getting a new job through to starting at a new company. You can write content around each step of that user journey.

2) Keyword research

Now that you have some content ideas you'll want to use a tool like ahrefs to look at the search volume and keyword difficulty of keywords associated with those pieces of content. If your domain is brand new I recommend you target keywords with a difficulty less than 20 and a search volume of at least 500. If the difficulty of a keyword is too high then add qualifiers to try to target longer tail keywords. For example, instead of writing an article on "data science resume" write an article on "python data science resume". The search volume is lower, but longer tailed keywords are easier to rank for.

3) Analyze the current search results for your keyword

Open an incognito tab and look at what's currently ranking for your target keyword. Do this to understand what Google views as the searcher intent of that keyword. You'll want to write content that addresses the same intent that the current top ranking content for that keyword addresses (I go into more detail on this step in the blog post)

4) Do the technical stuff needed for SEO

The guide that I use for this step is here: https://jdnoc.com/quick-seo/

5) Outline and write

Write an outline of your content making sure that your primary keyword is in your H1 and your secondary keywords are in your H2s. Feel free to get inspiration from the content that's currently ranking for a given keyword to come up with your outline. Try to identify gaps in the currently ranking content that you can address to differentiate your content.

Thanks and let me know if you have any questions!
