Going hard on marketing

We did 0 marketing during March. Understandable with what was going on, but similar companies had huge growth.

Stepping off the gas pedal was a bad idea in hindsight. We should have embraced it and pushed harder.

This month we won't make the same mistake.

We have a Product Hunt launch coming Wednesday of a huge feature we have been working on for a while.

Analytics and event tracking. You can easily see what traffic converts best and focus on that

It is much simpler than Google Analytics and collects 40% more data because we bypass adblock :)

I also had an idea for a "growth hack" that took a few hours to build and could have huge upside by going viral in our niche.

We set up an affiliate program today https://versoly.com/affiliate and have shared it with a few of our customers who asked for it, will report how we promoted and the results we got next month some time.

We're also doing partnerships with companies in our space. First one coming out this month!

I finally found the time to play a bit with the demo and it’s really good! I think that by marketing Versoly as a SaaS website builder you may be limiting yourself 🙂

Thanks man and only getting better everyday :)

In a world where just Versoly exists I agree.

I have been following https://nathanbarry.com/sales/ if anything I want to niche more and dominate that market.

The page/website builder market is so competitive with a ton of established players.

      1. 2

Yeah I’m the first who usually suggests to niche down but in your case I’d do the opposite. I see no reason why someone should use SquareSpace instead of Versoly.

          Interesting.

The only traffic we send is SaaS from IHs, FB groups and https://saaspages.xyz/ do you think removing SaaS from the home page would lower conversions?

          1. 5

Maybe... or maybe not, without actual data it’s impossible to say. Anyway, you could build a “generic” homepage plus multiple landing pages to target specific use cases (one for SaaS, one for bloggers, etc.) and send traffic to the relevant one.

            I second @andreboso's suggestions ;)

    Great plan. Keep pushing!🔥

how has the affiliate program worked?

    1. 1

Got a few signups, we did a PH launch yesterday so was focused on that.

Goal will be to get more affiliates signed up.

we used this strategy for a product many years ago. it worked well, but, i wish i hadn't done it from the start. ¯\(ツ)

Very cool. The product is looking promising. This is something that I could see myself promoting on my blog in the future, so I've bookmarked your affiliate page. Keep up the good work!

      That would be amazing :)

Let me know if I can help.

Good hustling Volkan! Love the "wave" feature--very SaaSy.

      Thanks!

100% haha all SaaS sites are using them now.

Hey @volkandkaya Good luck with the PH feature launch. Do let me know, happy to give an upvote :)

Regarding your audience, how about targeting a few niche industries and becoming a key player in those industries when it comes to building websites.

People in tech industry are likely to be aware of other existing website builders whereas people/companies in non-tech industries might see a website builder as a good tool. Let's say for example targeting niche industries like the music or legal industry might be a good option.

Obviously research will need to be done to find out niche industries where companies see website builder as a good tool and also a moneymaker for Versoly.

So there is founder market fit, that is what I aimed for.

I love doing customer support because I get to talk to founders and marketers of software companies all day. I do that for free here :)

SaaS also has network effects. Everyone listens to the same podcasts, reads the same blogs and books. If we get a few big customers life will become very easy.

Also we only compete vs one company Wordpress, and that is a terrible solution.

P.S. There are 1000s of website builders, many for each niche :) I have spoke with agencies that all have their own CMS and builders.

      1. 1

It's good that you have found the founder market fit.

Also, nice of you to have done the research, thought-through options available and the direction you wish to proceed.

Let's not even talk about Wordpress. So many nightmares :/

        1. 1

Yeah I had this problem in my last SaaS. Didn't see a good solution.

Wasn't solved for 2 years while I built it.

Then I was inspired by blocks and a really easy to use builder. But they missed a lot of features.

Yep we had someone who worked with WP for 10 years swap to us.

Nice. I like it that you are using affiliates as word of mouth marketing. Please update us if this works. Thanks 🙏😆

Will do, the dream is to get marketing with little work :)

  8. 1

Yes! influencer marketing is arguably the most important marketing. make other people market for you. its more personal, relatable to new consumer and often they tell better stories.

    1. 3

      100%

I also rather reward my customers than facebook or google if I can.
