Has anyone actually measured Stripe failed payments vs real churn?

I always treated failed payments as a rounding error.

Then I pulled the last 90 days of failed payment attempts.
On my own account the dollars were small ... but the pattern was clear:
card fails → retries stop → customer disappears.
A lot of that isn’t “they hated the product.” It’s involuntary.

Curious what other founders see:

  • Do you track failed-payment $ separately from cancel churn?
  • Is Stripe Smart Retries “good enough” for you?
  • Any number that surprised you when you finally looked?

Not selling anything in this post...genuinely trying to learn how people handle this.
