Have you heard about the Hedonic Treadmill? 🏃‍♂️

The other day, I was eating a bar of chocolate after a long day of work. The initial moments of eating that chocolate were filled with happiness. But soon, the drudgery of the day caught up to me and I thought to myself - Does happiness ever last?

And that got me thinking - how long does the happiness of getting a promotion, buying your first car, or moving into an amazing house last?

The hedonic treadmill states that people repeatedly return to their relatively stable level of happiness, regardless of major positive or negative events happening to them.

So guess what? It’s time to let go of the thought that you’ll finally find that lasting happiness when you reach that seven-digit figure or your business gets X number of clients.

Don’t be too disheartened though. Research states that 40% of our happiness is dependent on our actions, attitudes, and thoughts.

Here are some things you can do to amplify your levels of happiness:

Be grateful

  • Practice meditation or mindfulness
  • Learn to accept your emotions even fear, anxiety and sadness
  • Invest in relationships
  • Pursue goals that you want to achieve instead of those you feel obligated towards.

Can you add something to this list?

Love,
Siddhita ❤️

I would add sports to the list because that gives you a dose of serotonin, another happiness hormone. When I run, I adore this feeling both during and after the running. I feel fuller of energy and strength. But, I especially love running in the park, in nature, because that makes me even more fulfilled. I recently bought the best treadmills under 500 because sometimes I can't run outside because of the bad weather. Although running on the treadmill, you can't admire nature. Instead, you can feel the same sense of fulfillment that this body of yours can do so many things, and you have to be thankful for it.
