Help – I think I bought the wrong domain name.

Hey guys,
I have a silly question that I'd love to share with you and hear your opinion.

I bought a domain name: indiehackers.promo on July 24, 2021, because I had (still have) an idea of building a site where indie hackers can post their products whenever they have any sales or promotions going on.

While I was working to build up my idea, I wrote Allan Courtland on Twitter (I'm sure he is the right Courtland brother 😅) on January 7th, 2022.
I didn't want to get caught up in any copyright laws or claims, so I sent him a message explaining why I had bought the domain. I asked if I could use it or not and even offered to transfer the domain to him (for free) if I couldn't use it.
I got no reply.

I understand he is busy, so I waited three months and wrote him again (April 7, 2022). I'm still waiting for his reply.

What is the point of this?

  1. I still want to build out the idea I had when I bought the domain name.
  2. Someone has made a generous offer for the domain name (although I'm not considering it).
  3. Most importantly, I don't want to get into legal issues concerning this in future (even though the product and content will be 💯 different from what indiehackers[.]com offers)

So far, the only thing I have done is initialize a new project with Laravel 😅

What should I do?

Thanks ✌🏿

I don't see any problems here.

'indie hackers' is now a common general word, not specifically meaning this community.
