Hitting $1500 of sales in the first week

Two weeks ago I launched NoCode Notion, a resource kit of templates, tools and tutorials to help you build and ship a micro-startup in minutes, using only Notion.

In the first week, I sold $1500 worth of lifetime memberships (with $0 ad spend) and I want to share some learnings from the launch that might help your product get the same traction.

1. 🧑‍💻Build an audience

Community is key. Before I even came up with NoCode Notion, I started a community called Notion Expert. My focus was to grow an email audience that I could use to sell future products.

Over three months, I acquired over 2,000 emails. Our weekly Notion Expert newsletter gets a 50% open rate and a 15% CTR.

At launch, I sent an email to the entire list promoting the course and immediately got sales. I can't recommend enough how valuable it can be to have an established audience ahead of your launch.

2. 🕵️‍♂️Find your users

Do you know who your users are? I did. Passionate Notion enthusiasts who wanted to explore new and different ways to use the platform. Based on my Notion Expert experience, I also knew where they were.

The Notion community has very active Facebook and Reddit communities so that's where I focused my marketing efforts.

The Reddit doesn't allow for the self-promotion of paid products, so I focused on the Facebook group. My post on the Notion Made Simple Facebook group got over 80 likes and led to a number of sales.

I love Facebook groups because users receive notifications of popular posts which amplifies your reach. I've had tons of success in FB groups and would encourage others to explore take this channel seriously.

3. 🏷Group buys

This is something I didn't know about. There are communities of 'group buyers' now who negotiate deals with Product Hunt startups to secure discounts for their communities.

One of the organizers reached out to me and asked for a 20% discount for his Facebook group. I created the promo code and his group was the number one driver of sales for me in my first week.

I want to dig deeper into how many of these group buy programs exist and see if we can tap into them further.

What's next

  • I have 100 unconverted leads from my landing page 'free newsletter landing page' sign-up form. I'm going to send them another promo email to announce a new e-commerce template available.
  • While Notion users are my target audience, I want to explore whether there's interest in this product in the no-code community at large. I'm going to try to sponsor a few no-code newsletters to see if I get any traction.

Good job! How did you go from 0 to 2k subscribers in such a short time?

    1. 1

Hey! I created a product called Notion Expert (https://www.notionexpert.com/) that curated the best Notion resources. The Notion community loved the product and I was able to convert the surge of traffic to the site into email sign-ups.

What was the copy to get people to sign up for the newsletter?
