I'm building a social app for sports teams, targeting kids. Because kids are involved, we have coaches and parents too. The goal is to boost social engagement before/after games.
We're currently exploring monetization. We don't have direct competitors, but companies in adjacent spaces (i.e. team administration/management) have a subscription pricing model. These utility products are 10x more feature-rich + insanely commoditized - $0.30/mo per user.
So, we're struggling to determine whether subscription is the right monetization strategy for us. Ads is hugely unpopular given privacy concerns + UX pollution.
Given the anti-ads movement, how are consumer social startups monetizing these days? Would love some inspiration.
Consumer social apps are innovating around monetization by diversifying revenue streams beyond traditional advertising. They're exploring subscription models, in-app purchases for premium features or content, virtual goods, affiliate marketing, and even creator monetization tools like tipping or subscription-based content. Additionally, some apps are leveraging data insights for targeted advertising and personalized experiences, while ensuring user privacy remains a priority.
