How did you get your first 100 newsletter subscribers?

For Psych, I found my first 100 subscribers by talking about it in public, mainly of Twitter, FB groups etc.

Submitting your newsletter to various newsletter directories help too. One thing I haven't tested is cross-promotion but it is said to very helpful as well.

Here's how I got my first 100 subscribers:

The first 100 came really quickly for me, but it's been really slow ever since. I've been getting good feedback from subscribers, and have only had 1 person unsubscribe since I started, but haven't broken 200 subscribers yet.

Side note: I've since moved completely off of Substack and onto my own blog/Mailchimp to give me more flexibility and control.

Mine first 100 came in pretty slowly. It was a bit of a challenge since my newsletter Salt Sear Savor is on cooking, Indie Hackers and some of the other communites I follow aren't quite the same audience.

I relied mostly on reaching out directly to friends, family, and coworkers asking them to subscribe. My first big rush came from posting on my own personal Facebook - of course I had to get my mom and grandmother to subscribe :). Then I sent Slack messages or emails to people I knew who were into cooking or food. And I'd also just make sure to tell folks in person as well.

You could also ask some of your friends and family to direcly share a post to their networks as well. I asked a couple of people I know to do that and it helped as well.
