I’ve been thinking about operational blind spots in e-commerce stores.
Things like:
• failed payment spikes
• sudden refund increases
• unusually large orders
• daily revenue drops
For people running stores — how do you normally notice these?
Do you rely on dashboards, Stripe emails, or custom alerts?
Curious what workflows people use to catch issues early before they impact revenue.
This is literally what I spend my days building, so I have opinions here.
Most store owners I talk to find out about problems way too late — like "why was last Tuesday's revenue 40% lower" on Friday. Stripe emails catch maybe 20% of anomalies. Dashboards only work if someone's actively watching them, which nobody does daily.
The stuff that actually works: threshold-based alerts on key metrics. Not just revenue, but things like average order value shifts, payment failure rate crossing 3-4%, or refund rate spiking above your baseline. The trick is setting thresholds tight enough to catch real issues but loose enough you don't get alert fatigue.
What's your current stack? That changes what's practical to set up.
