I'm working on a new YAWPP (yet another work in public podcast)...and I noticed this trend of creating a "trailer" episode. Seems like a great idea just to get my feet wet with recording and to even nail down the premise of the show more.
Question though. How do I share this trailer to get feedback? Do I host it somewhere privately to get feedback, or do I actually publish it like the first episode of a podcast?
Some additional context here...I'm planning on recording about 4 to 5 actual episodes to create some inventory of them to release weekly, so I'm not quite ready to "launch" with this trailer yet.
Thoughts on what to do?
Typically, once you're feeling good about your trailer, most people publish it as the "first" episode.
From there, you could share this across your email list & socials.
Then from there, you can hit up all your podcast buddies and ask if they would feature your trailer at the end of their episodes.
You can also pay to play by hitting up large shows asking how much a post-roll ad spot would cost, or even "Feed Drops" which is the most expensive, but this just means whoever's show your paying gets your trailer published as it's own standalone episode - all traffic from the 1st second points to you
Hey that's great advice...thanks!
I'm also realizing there's some lead time of getting approved in Apple iTunes...so totally agree...lotta reasons to just publish that trailer as a first episode sooner rather than waiting.
I think it could be beneficial to include how you structured your tailer episode. I am wondering if you can share how you approached this?
Thanks!
I haven't actually recorded it yet, but I'm thinking of just simply introducing myself, the premise of the show, and what to expect in each episode. The trailer won't be longer than 2 minutes. Hoping this trailer doubles as the "elevator pitch" that I can use in the future to give people the show summary.
I've heard some other trailers mix in some sound bytes from future episodes/interviews...but I'm not planning on doing that.
Sounds good, let us know once the trailer is live. If you want I can leave you with some honest feedback ;)
