Having been raised with the idea that you should always strive for better results and never settle, it's hard to enjoy the little victories I have along the way. It me almost a year to get to the first paying client which I actually missed and didn't celebrate. Today I got 2 new clients, and after being happy for 5 minutes went back to work. As a result, these small achievements get lost which over time still leads to anxiety. So how to do you celebrate these moments? With a drink? With a dance? With a day off?
Congratulations for your two clients!
I feel you, sometimes I can't enjoy those small wins because it comes with overthinking. We have to take the time to celebrate these small wins. Share it with your loved ones and let them cheer you up, it's important! Or do something you like ( I personally enjoy playing the piano, it helps me clear up my head after a long day of work).
I wish I knew how to play musical instruments. I actually went out for a short walk this morning during my most productive time. It felt like betrayal of sorts, but I tried to frame it to myself as a celebration. Gifted myself most precious time. Thank you for sharing your ritual :)
I share everything with my wife.
She is often prouder about it than me.
Then, at night, we order sushi to celebrate together.
Did it become a habit by now? Is sushi like a treat for you? I mean, buying myself something small but memorable (maybe a Kinder Surprise, or sushi as you do) would help to "anchor" that win into my memory to get some dopamine and retain happiness for the next few days.
Yes, it has become a habit, but surely it's not the fact of buying something "per se".
It's the fact of knowing that she is proud of me.
Sushi is more like our favorite "scenario" for celebrations.
It's our favorite food, in a moment of silence with the kids sleeping, when we just enjoy each other company.
I, personally, wouldn't rely on buying things to myself. Sooner or later we need "strongest" doses of it (more expensive ones) to feel the same amount of dopamine.
What works best for me is the satisfaction of impressing her.
It makes me work harder for an even bigger achievement that will impress her again.
My satisfaction is to see her proud of me.
Sushi is definitely only a scenario that registers the event on our memories.
Aah, that is a good one. Thanks for an elaborate answer!
