How do you handle contracts in your SaaS App?

At the same time I am implementing it myself, I was curious about what approach you are following when implementing contracts/subscriptions with your users.

In my case, I emphasize contracts, because my SaaS is B2B, annual contracts that can be paid in 1,3,6,12 chunks.

I see that keeping past contracts is good practice, so do you implement contracts as items that cover an specific period of time and get you some benefits inside the app, or are you approaching this in a different way? In this case I understand you always reference for the current one in order to see what rights has the account, isn't it?
