How do you handle payments?
I currently sell some stuff on Etsy. I want to move my store over to a gatsby site I wrote; however, doing so would mean needing to handle accounts, payments, shipping calculations, etc. This seems kinda tedious.
This got me wondering, how do most small companies handle payments?
I noticed Stripe some documentation behind this, but it looks to be deprecated.
Just curious if anyone went down this path before, and how did it go?

Almost everyone is going to say they use Stripe, and honestly, with good reason: it's one of the best solutions out there. One of the founders of this site (@csallen) is a Stripe employee (edit: it actually looks like this entire site is owned by Stripe).
It can be a bit tedious to get this set up, but there are tons and tons of guides out there, and lots of plugins/widgets to make it easier.
There are other payment platforms, too, like Braintree, Shopify, PayPal, etc. but I think you'll find Stripe to be the most common for rolling your own site.

For an e-commerce site, I would definitely use something like Shopify to get help with shipping calculations, sales tax and inventory etc.
Curious about why you want to move off Etsy and roll your own with Gatsby?
Fair question.
Main reason was for control and experience working with a billing/inventory system.
What's the reasoning to move off of Etsy? Is it just more control over your products, and to have a direct relationship with your customers? If so, then the next question is what's the reason to use Gatsby? That seems like a large jump from a marketplace that handles everything to a hand-built site where you manage everything.
Would something like Shopify be a valid interim step? You get the benefit of a turn-key ecosystem that has easy-to-use plugins for things like accounts, payments, shipping calculations, and sales tax. But you also have near total control over the UI and, of course, you are building a direct relationship with your customers instead of being beholden to the marketplace.

Reason why I'm considering moving over to Gatsby are for more control and also to familiarize myself with what is needed to manage a billing service.
I'm not a huge fan of how they present the product. I think it can be done better.
I'll noodle on the shopify idea for a bit. I think that route might make the most sense... and I don't have the scale to really justify spending tons of time upkeeping a billing system.
