How do you manage inbound affiliate bank links?

I am trying an affiliate program for the first time and using firstpromoter.
However, I am doing some research and found out that Google considers inbound affiliate links as paid links (I guess they hate these links because the affiliate program is eating up their ad revenue). This is not and could be a punishable offense if the link volume gets too much.

How do you manage these backlinks to ensure they are nofollow instead of dofollow for a WordPress website for instance?

Are you aware of any plugins that can help?

Or I should not be worried?
