Staying informed is important to me — political news, business news, tech, you name it. But the news is also toxic. My emotions and time are constantly exploited by the sources I used to trust.
Is anybody finding balance in your media intake? If so, what's your recipe?
I use Feedly as a news aggregator - it's great. You can comb through various sources in a few minutes and save articles.
Love the post,
What I try to do is make time for staying informed. It feels easier to stay conscious in the time allocated. When it's not that time I try to not search out new input
Good question.
My approach is to go after news when I want instead of have unrequested news coming at me through people I follow, social media feeds and whatnot.
PS: I don’t use Twitter anymore, nor Facebook.
So, when I want to inform myself, I read a few news sites from the country I live in, Aljazeera, and others from the US and England.
Haven't figured that out yet! My intake is too high, whether it's on social media or "the news". It's kind of an addiction tbh. That article has some good points though.
Personally, I read the headers on the front page of my favorite news site every morning. If something actually seems interesting, I click into it. And the news site I use supposedly doesn't lean left or right (but of course it actually does in reality).
Otherwise, I try to get my news from talking to people in my community. And if something if I want to learn more, I look things up... rather than just getting blasted by whatever a media company wants to tell me.
