How I automated WordPress → Medium without wrecking my SEO

For the longest time, my publishing workflow looked like this:

Write in WordPress

Hit publish

Copy everything into Medium

Fix formatting

Worry about SEO and duplicate content

Forget to do it half the time anyway

It worked, but it was tedious and easy to mess up. The biggest concern was always SEO. I didn’t want Medium competing with my own site in search.

So I built a small tool called PublishRelay to simplify that workflow.

Instead of full background automation, the current version uses a one-click Chrome extension flow. It works like this:

You log into PublishRelay.com

You connect your Medium account

You install the Chrome extension

When you’re ready, you click Sync

Your WordPress post is pulled into Medium

It lands in Medium ready for review or publishing

No copy-paste. No reformatting. No manual setup inside Medium.

What this still handles for you:

Preserves headings, images, lists, and code blocks

Keeps the content consistent between platforms

Removes the repetitive manual work entirely

The biggest lesson building this so far:

People care more about reliable one-click workflows than full automation.

Writers want control, not silent background systems.

Even partial automation has huge perceived value if it kills friction.

There’s a free plan if anyone wants to try it. I’m mostly looking for real feedback right now:

Is this a workflow you actually deal with?

Would one-click sync be enough for you?

What would make this truly “set it and forget it”?

Open to honest criticism — this is still being shaped in public.
