How I spend $500 per day because of a misconfiguration

was billed ($600) by azure for using misconfigured sql.
the CSR wasn't nice at first, (3rd party service, not employed by MS)
Had to deposity/pay the amout due.
but later on, (probably checking my logs/etc)
they give back the excess (was only using like 20-25$ per month)
my projects are only college/undergrad thesis :)
Ah.
A bunch of computers connected together. The cloud. I try to stay as far as I can from it: too much overhead when migrating, I don't control anything, and I saw this kind of problem SO many times.Maybe Google will show mercy on you if you get in touch with support? I have experience with AWS helping me out with an accidental large bill.
I use firestore on some of my projects, that's the valuable lesson, thanks for sharing Dirk!
Oof, that's rough!
Great write up. I see this infinite scalable (aka serverless) as a great starting point to get things off the group for pretty much $0. But once you start getting some steady traffic, the unpredictable costs can be a big issue for bootstrapers.
