How I'm Giving My Articles Next Life

Hello! I'm sharing my process of updating articles to rank them higher and make them more valuable. Here is what you will know after reading this post:

👉 how to define if an article needs to be improved
👉 how to decide about the level of changes
👉 how to make sure your changes will make a significant impact

So let’s start!

Step 1: Check the article in SEO tools

It's just my proposition of tools. Use what is working for you.

✅ Ahrefs → Keywords and Backlinks.
✅ Google Analytics → Page Views, Average Time Spent On The Page, Visits, Bounce Rate, and Conversion.
✅ GTmetrix or PageSpeed Insight → Performance, Top Issue, and Structure.
✅ ScreamingFrog → URL Details, Outlinks, SERP Snippet, Images.

STEP 2: Content and Keywords Research

It's just my proposition of tools. Use what is working for you.

✅ Ahrefs → Conducting keywords research and content gap analysis (here you can find a more detailed article on this topic: Hack Competitors' SEO Strategy By Ahrefs! Full Guide for 2022
✅ Browsing the content in TOP10 on the most critical keywords (you can find it in Ahrefs or just by typing essential for you keywords in Google Search)

STEP 3: Defining the goal and create a plan for the article

✅ Definition of the aim and assumptions (ex: Rank at 1 position in Google for keywords “SEO Audit”) of the article
✅ Creating a list of keywords to include in the article

→ If it is necessary to make more significant changes to the article:
✅ Make a new outline for the article (always remember about Search Intent!)
✅ New headings and a short description of what they will be about

STEP 4: Article updating

✅ Improving the content of the article
✅ Marking in the article on Google Doc the places where the graphics should be put + comments on what they should be about
✅ Adding internal linking
✅ Error checking (spelling, grammar, linking, dates, etc.)

STEP 5: Get all visual materials ready

If you are wondering if this step is necessary, I will tell you about my experience. After adding more visuals to our articles, we saw a significant improvement, mainly in the case of time spent on the page. Also, creating visuals for your article provides you with great materials for social media promotion!

✅ Have a graphic designer prepare visual materials (or you can do it by yourself on Canva or Figma) and optimize them

STEP 6: Inserting article into your blog

This is mainly tailored for the case of our BOWWE Blog. We use our tool for blogging, so some steps can be a little different for each person.

✅ Inserting all language versions into the BOWWE Builder
✅ Completing linking, alt attributes, SEO and social media sections, etc.
✅Adding banners, footers, and information about the author
✅Publication of texts

STEP 7: Optimization: text analysis in SEO tools and correction of detected errors

It's just my proposition of tools. Use what is working for you.

✅ GTmetrix → Performance, Top Issue, Structure.
✅ ScreamingFrog → URL Details, Outlinks, SERP Snippet, Images.

STEP 8: Indexing the article in Google Search Console

STEP 9: Promotion of the article on social media

✅ Publication of a post promoting the article (Social Media - Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.)

STEP 10: Observation

✅ After updating your article, don’t leave it! Keep an eye on its results.
✅ It is recommended to have a separate document where you will record your observations. It is also worth noting, for example, in Google Analytics when exactly the changes to the article were made.
