How many email newsletters do you subscribe to?

I see lots of newsletters on offer here, but I'm curious how much IH community actually consumes newsletters.

I've subscribed to a bunch in the past, but few usually stick. For me it's just 4 right now:

  • Justin Jackson
  • Studio Neat Gazette
  • Patio11's Bits About Money
  • IH newsletters

I used to only read 1-2 newsletters. The problem is the inbox is a terrible place for them. I'm not in content consumption mode when I check my inbox. I'm checking for things to respond to. Newsletter issues just got starred for later, but there are so many stars that I just never got to them.

Newsletters are easier to consume when I moved them into a separate email account. Then it's more like making time to read a book. I just have reading time when I open that account. I have since moved that to my PKM tool which makes it easier to read.

I had the same pattern - subscribe, star,
ignore - and came to the same conclusion. I hadn’t seen dynomantle before, but it seems great for this problem. I solved it for myself by switching to Hey email and putting all the newsletters into The Feed. Having a list of things that are only consumables means I actually read the newsletters I’m subscribed to now.

Yeah for sure. Email is great, but has a lot of use cases crammed into that inbox. I actually like Hey's approach to an email feed a lot.

I think the one thing they could improve to fight spam better is adding randomly generated emails. Fastmail and Dynomantle both do this and it's way better than relying on ML spam detectors.

I haven't had a spam problem with Hey yet, but I'll admit I make liberal use to the "clear all" button in the Screener.
