For 2 years, we pivoted 3 times. We still are seeking a product-market fit and it looks like we'll have a new pivot soon.
Tell your story. How many times did you pivot with your startup?
In the past 4 months aloooot ... and I literally mean a lot
It's very tough because we all want to see our products succeed.
And it takes a lot of time and energy to create something that is truly valuable.
I have been part of a couple of startups earlier and understand what you are going through.
Once you find the right product-market fit... it becomes easier. But I am sure that is not an impossible task.
Just keep moving forward... that's what is important
How do you understand that you need the next pivot?
Agree that don't stop and learning - is an essential skill.
Too often, we jump straight to the next pivot without questioning whether we need it in the first place.
"We figured we'd just pivot" is an easy refrain that founders can invoke to explain their movement forward.
But before you take that next step, stop and assess whether it's actually making your product better or worse. If you figure out that your product is stagnating, perhaps it's time to either make a change or move on to another idea altogether.
There's no one-size-fits-all formula for when it's time to make a pivot, but there are generally some good factors to consider:
Scraping the bottom of the barrel. If you’ve done everything in your power and it still isn’t working, maybe it’s time to start over.
Burnout. When everyone on your team is tired, frustrated, and ready to throw in the towel, that's a sign that things aren't going well.
You’re not making any money
The product is not gaining traction.
There are no clear answers on what features should be prioritized next.
The secret to building a successful business on a pivot is to tackle the bigger opportunity rather than just build for a market.
Don't focus your product on a niche, but instead pivot and build for a much broader audience, who you can attract with the 1st version of your product.
