How many users should I have in Year 1?
Just curious to know how founders set benchmarks for the number of users in the first year.
I was (and still) am not building fully in public so my approach to getting sign-ups at Geeks and Experts has been more ad hoc via referrals, word of mouth, forums, and communities like IH, PH, and direct sales via Twitter/LinkedIn.
However, sometimes I am overwhelmed by how much effort it takes to get a signup and often I feel I am not doing enough or pushing hard enough to get those big numbers/traction going.
How do you set realistic yet ambitious goals for your Year 1?
I believe it depends on how much your users are willing to pay for your product. Let's say you have a B2C product that ou need a large base of users to make it work, like a social app, then you need a high number of sign ups and DAU, however, if you have a very niche product with a high price, you might don't need to have a large user base to be very profitable.
