How to build something like trends dot co?
I have a vivid memory of some indie hacker describing how they built a product similar to trends.co, but now I can’t figure out who.
What I’m wondering is; how would you pick the trend, or find the trend?
Google trends allows you to find most of the data you need, but not pick the trend.
Any ideas?

Most people subscribed to Trends - never act on the ideas provided. Its based on entertainment/hope/now I have something cool to tell my friends.
Once you understand that, it takes a lot of the pressure off selecting what trend to go with.

The product is now Exploding Topics
We have dozens of scripts monitoring across the web (search, social, shopping, etc). And our algorithm picks up on interesting keywords from those sources. I can't say too much more on that since it's kinda our secret sauce!
