How to get the first testimonials?

Social proof is huge for new products. But how do new products get their first testimonial? I know some are organic.

I haven't seen success yet but I can tell you my own strategy. Firstly, my own product automates the process of getting reviews. Here's how my strategy looks like:

    1. I build multiple products.

    2. Give away free tools to get new sign-ups. Especially for tools others are currently paying for. Of course, I also put in effort to make sure that the tools are as good as what they are currently using.

    3. I have a process to automatically send NPS survey to users. Like 14 days after they sign-up, my system will drop them NPS survey via email and web.

    4. If they rated a high score, I will immediately ask them if they are willing to leave a review for me at Capterra. Since Capterra allows incentivzations, I'm offering them $5 Amazon gift card if they leave a review (regardless positive or negative).

    5. Automatically follow-up 2 days later via email with the same offer if they didn't leave a review.

Ultimately, the best way to get reviews is to first provide value for others without asking for anything in return. Starting up is hard and you have to take initiatives to build trust from others first. Hope that helps!
