I have been wondering how so many small SaaS product websites mention names of large organisations as customers. E.g, it is common to see a simple plugin mentioning Netflix, Microsoft, Google as its customers.
I am wondering how does it really work? Do these companies get an automatic right to add those logos to their sites as soon as someone with such domain addresses register for the product or do they take approval from the appropriate authority in those organisations? I find it hard to believe that it is the latter because I don't get why the organisation would ever endorse a small product, if only a few of its employees/teams use a product. At the same time, I doubt that those products have an explicit contract with these organisations.
Could someone throw light on how it is done? I could really benefit from this for my own product.
Some are asking for the rights. But I think most just copy the logo and put it up on their sites. If you are concerned about the client not authorizing to do it, just discuss it with them first and make a quick contract.
I don't think that most clients care as long as they have a good relationship with your company.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for the response. I have a similar understanding and perception that most companies put the logos with an implicit approval.
In the context of a Consumer SaaS,
The signal for "good relationship" with client is based on the engagement pattern and the subscription pattern of the users from the organisation
The challenge with explicit upfront approval is that you cannot determine if and who is the user who can give that kind of authorisation.
When I used to work for an MNC, we did this in marketing by asking for the rights to use their logo on our website after we've identified them as power users. They're more likely to give the rights if they use your product regularly (and love using it, of course). Then, when I moved to SaaS, we added a clause in our T&Cs that automatically grants us the rights to use their logo as a customer reference, but with an option to opt-out in the future.
Thanks this is really helpful
