How was your July?

It's time to look back on your July.

  • How did it go?
  • What went well?
  • What didn't go according to plan?

(There's a Twitter and LinkedIn version of this too, feel free to cross post! πŸ₯°)

happily frustrated... is what i call it.

Lack of child care support is really getting to me this month.

I need to make a decision on whether or not to send my youngest back to nursery in September and I can't make my mind up.

My todo list at IH does not get smaller :|

Though I did make progress with my side project (rosieland.substack.com), I made it a paid newsletter on the 5th of July and now have 23 paid subscribers.

    1. 2

      Congrats on the newsletter!

      Rosie!

I wouldn't have noticed that child care support was a pain, you've been constantly shipping and being active. Hopefully, you have the time to reflect and make the right decision.

So cool I didn't know you had a newsletter, and it's cool your sharing what you've learnt about communities. I think its important in the early stage. Subscribed and will be sharing!

        Thanks for subscribing. πŸ₯°

I know that feeling. I have to young girls. We are lucky enough to have a preschool that has a good plan for separating the kids.

The thing that gets us is the risk analysis that had to take place every time we leave the house.

  3. 3

Busy moving house and settling in. Working at home full time all while building my side-projects is taking it's toll. Really need to start exercising more!

On the plus side, I've managed to get lots of the new side-project Astrola built and plenty new mailing signups πŸ‘Œ

Another month of getting increasingly unhappier in my regular web dev job, and not spending time building my own projects! Frustrating.

    1. 2

Know the feeling mate. Gotta grind to get results I tell myself!

      1. 1

Yeah, it's tough to keep motivated!

  5. 2

Not much progress in actual sales, but the personal brand grew. Just reached 1M views on Quora

    July was amazing.

In short, I am moving in the right direction and have made the necessary tradeoffs to focus on things that energise me and moving me towards my goals

    Top 3 tips:

    1. Start selling value consistently
    2. Step out of your comfort zone
    3. Journal regularly
  8. 1

Crossed $10K monthly revenue from all my microstartups!

    1. 2

      I saw that, amazing work!

  9. 1

    Decent. In a business accelerator
    Didn't lose much
New features haven't dropped yet. Developers moving slow.

I haven't spent any money on the business. I am building my assets for when the new features are available I can advertise.
I need the location features and price change to become available. The app is foe side hustles so hopefully we can help people make some extra income

July had been a pretty good month for me. My newsletter got over 100 subscribers during July and the list more than tripled. Indiehackers and Reddit have been by far the most important platform. Also being featured on Betalist helped. Also got a couple of possible sponsors with whom I am still talking about possible collaboration.

Overall July was a good month for me.

It went mediocre. We implemented a new search mechanism which really increased our accuracy and that's great. But we still don't really know how to get people to pay for what we are building, and the amount of money I'm spending on this monthly is causing me a lot of angst.

Extremely satisfied! Got my first paying subscriber for Blanq and increased the uptime of the service to almost 100%. Fixed many minor bugs, and in general the service held up well without any major issues.

In July, I did not add any new features but instead focused on stability and security.

What did not go well is the rate of addition of new users - I paused marketing and writing which translated to low signups. This month, I plan to focus on that aspect and gain a few more users.

July was pretty solid. Our team launched our MVP, we reached 100+ users and I started doing KPI reports to track my progress. Looking forward to continuing to improve in August!

    Not a bad July.

    Added a Budha animation
    Toonclip - Monkey says

Also developed the ability to add audio. I created a Birthday animation for my brother with audio and it was quite popular. https://toonclip.com/player?key1=47a8c35307

Got lots of feedback about the site.

  15. 1

It's already the end of July?! Everything was a blur

  16. 1

Great! tons of progress on Partizion and got my first paying user (who wasn't a family member)

    Onwards and upwards!

  17. 1

Did a lot of market research. I thought I would do more development but I convinced myself to wait. Next step is market validation.

    • How did it go? OK.
    • What went well? - We (https://www.wildkard.io) hit our growth goal of 10 customers within 30d of launch despite covid and a $0 marketing budget.
What did not go well? - Work/life balance. Full-time job + startup life = excruciating.
    • Been doing it for 14 months, unsure how long I can go on like this for.

July was unfortunately a very unproductive month for my side project work. Work was very hectic so lots of late nights for deadlines do very little time to work on my own stuff 😒

  20. 1

    What went well?

    • πŸ“™ I launched my landing page for my book beginning of July. 13% of visitors signed up, I think it's quite good! To be honest I have no idea, but if I can help that many people I'm very happy πŸ™‚

    • I worked quite a lot on my book, which was so much fun!

What didn't go according to plan?

    • I'm slower than I thought on the writing, but that's fine. I'm happier focusing on the quality than the speed.

    • πŸ•Š I tried to promote my landing page on social media (especially twitter), but I think it's not for me. It's tiring. It's like everybody is trying to speak at the same time, and nobody really listen. Maybe it's just me.

    • How did it go?: My father died at 74. That has to be my worst month ever.
On the business side of things, revenue similar to June, no growth. Got very little work done for different reasons while I do have tons of things to do. I feel a little bit pessimistic and thinking about the next project.

    • What went well?: Frankly, nothing.

    • What didn't go according to plan?: Life.

Oh man, sorry to hear that. Life hits hard when we're busy making plans for our present and future. I hope the good memories you have of him will comfort you and make you a stronger person in the days ahead.

      1. 1

Thank you! Yes, great memories indeed. I dedicated one of my projects to him in the about dialog. He made me the man I am.

    2. 2

Damn. Sorry to hear that. I think nobody can work under the worst circumstances...

      1. 1

Yeah it’s impossible. But I’m healing slowly. I have some of his sweaters with his scent. It smells great every single time.

    3. 2

I'm so sorry to hear about your father. I hope you can take the time you need to adjust and reflect. 😞

      1. 1

Thank you. I think about him every day, everything brings his memory.

  22. 1

I gave up on newsletter! πŸ˜’
I'll try it later. I wanted to improve the product first.

  23. 1

Not the month I wanted but the month I needed :)
