How your smartphone is affecting your cognitive capacity? 🧠

While I was working on my article of last week, I checked my phone seven times just while writing the introduction. Surprising, isn’t it?

Well, not really. We all are doing this more times than we think we are. According to a study, even if your mobile phone is on silent, turned face down, or put away, their mere presence reduces your cognitive capacity.

No wonder many schools are banning mobile phones all across the world.

Worse than this is the attention residue. Whenever you pick your phone just to scroll for two minutes or to reply to your friend’s message, you continue to think about it even when you’re back to writing that article or working on a project report.

This could come up in thoughts like, “Who would have posted something new on Instagram today?” or “What would he reply to my text?”

This can make working with full focus on a task difficult. What’s more? The presence of your mobile phone on your dining table or in a meeting indicates to the other person that you’re only going to be present with that person until you get a “Ping!” on your mobile.

Seems like it’s really time to put that phone away for good while we’re working or with someone we value.

Do you do this too?

Love,
Siddhita ❤️
