I almost launched my product with the wrong name.

After weeks of building, documenting, testing, and preparing for launch, I discovered that the name I'd chosen was already being used by several AI lead generation products.

It wasn't a legal issue yet—but it would have created confusion.

So I made the decision to rename the product before launch.

Honestly, it hurts a little. The old name was everywhere:

  • documentation
  • workflows
  • screenshots
  • product pages
  • branding

But fixing it now is much cheaper than fixing it after getting customers.

One lesson I've learned as a solo founder:

A product name isn't just a logo—it's part of your positioning.

If people can't immediately distinguish your product from others, you're making growth harder for yourself.

I'm curious:

Have you ever renamed a product before launch (or even after launch)? Was it the right decision?
