I built a product I loved, for a market, I didn't care about: It was one of my biggest mistakes
In May 2018, I built a fun mini-escape game on Facebook Messenger, to help Escape Rooms businesses get more revenue.
I loved the product (I still do) and the results for the customers were great. But I never felt close to them. It took me 3 years to stop working on it, I was torn apart between:
- $6,000 MRR
- a market I didn't care about
Luckily, covid killed my startup and forced me to move on to something else.
💡 (my) Lesson: if you're in for the long run pick a product & a market you love. Or simply a problem you really care about.

On a positive note, I still earn ~$800/month with this SaaS and I work less than 1 hour per week 😊
No need to love the market. If you got to 6 MRR, or now, 3200 per month, go to EmpireFlippers and you can get 50 to 60 times that money.
160K in your pocket is not bad for something you don't like.

I mean these days it's easy to flip these things - seen so many do it through Tiny Acquisitions. Microacquire, EarlyAcquire, Microns etc. So I don't think it matters so much now if you don't enjoy the space...

I know the feeling, though not quite as successfully as you.
I spent months building (after years thinking about it) an app that I wanted as an end user (B2BC) but once I built it I realized I knew nothing about the industry and the companies that I would actually be selling it to. That was last year. Today I’m still at $0/MRR and 0 users.
I listed it for sale and moved on to something I care about. Still no luck selling it, but it’s out there in case it catches someone’s eye.

EfficientNetHack on Gmal d0t com was really good to work with. They were helpful and patient in answering all my questions and making sure I understood the process.
