I built an AI expense tracker for freelancers — no forms, just talk

Freelancers hate tracking expenses. Too much friction.
Open app. Pick category. Type amount. Repeat. Nobody does it.

So I built Budgia — you just speak or type naturally.

"Lunch client Brussels 45€" → logged, categorized, VAT calculated.

The AI layer (Anthropic Haiku):
→ Extracts amount, merchant, category from free text
→ Detects PRO vs PERSO context automatically
→ Applies correct VAT (or adjust via settings) per country (BE, FR, US...)

No forms. No dropdowns. 10 seconds per expense.

This direction makes a lot of sense. I think “remove the form” is the real unlock for expense tracking.

I’m building in a similar problem space, but with WhatsApp as the input layer instead of a dedicated app. My bet is that the best tracker is the one users can log into from the place they already open 50 times a day.

Curious: are users more excited about the AI categorization, or simply the reduced friction?

This feels like a much better AI use case than “AI for the sake of AI.” You’re removing friction from something people already avoid doing. Natural language input for expenses honestly makes more sense than forcing users through forms and dropdowns every time.

Nice. I did the exact same thing but for life-logging. Health, nutrition, exercise, etc.

Nice idea, this could be a good way to test it. There’s a competition where you can submit it — entry is $19 and winner gets a Tokyo trip. Also, prize pool just opened at $0 so chances are best right now.
