I spent months building Mindfold, an AI-powered learning app. Now comes the part nobody prepared me for: getting people to actually use it. I'm documenting my journey from 0 users, experiments, failures, and hopefully some wins.
My product website: https://mindfold.fyi/
With 0 users, I’d resist treating “getting users” as one marketing problem. I’d pick one narrow learner segment and run a short, manual experiment: recruit 10 people directly, watch them start a lesson, ask what they expected, and see whether they return within a week. The useful signal isn’t traffic; it’s a repeatable reason someone comes back or refers a peer. That should tell you whether the next bottleneck is audience, activation, or the learning experience. Which learner group has shown the strongest pull during your build so far?
That’s a really good point. I’ve probably been thinking too much about “getting users” and not enough about finding the right first users.
Right now I’m thinking of focusing on students and self-learners who constantly save things to learn later but rarely actually come back to them. I’ll try getting 10 of them to use Mindfold and watch where they struggle instead of just chasing traffic.
I’ll definitely share what I learn from that experiment here.
