I built an AI tool for visualizing home exterior renovations

I've been working on HomeExterior AI for a while, and the idea came from a pretty simple problem:

When you're thinking about renovating your house, it's surprisingly hard to know what the final result will actually look like.

You can look at paint samples, Pinterest, Google Images, or ask a contractor for ideas. But none of them really show you your house with the changes.

So I built a tool where you can upload a photo of your house and try different exterior designs with AI.

For example, you can see what your house might look like with:

  • A different exterior paint color

  • New siding or roofing

  • A new front door or porch

  • A modern, Craftsman, Ranch, Coastal, or other style

  • Different landscaping

  • Different lighting or weather

One thing I care about is keeping the original house recognizable.

A lot of AI image generators are great at creating a beautiful new house, but that's not necessarily what you want when you're planning a real renovation. If the roof, windows, proportions, and layout all change, the result isn't very useful.

I'd rather be able to look at the image and think, "Yeah, that's actually my house."

That's what I'm trying to improve with HomeExterior AI.

It's still a work in progress. I'm particularly interested in improving architectural accuracy and making it easier to control exactly what changes and what stays the same.

If you're thinking about renovating your home, you can try it here:

I'd love to hear from anyone who has actually gone through a home exterior renovation — what was the hardest part of deciding what to change?

The “that’s actually my house” distinction is important. Have people used a render to make a real renovation decision—like choosing a design or getting a contractor quote—or are they mainly using it to explore ideas?
