I changed one thing about my messaging and it made everything click

Hey IH,

I built Recorde Analytics. Privacy-first web analytics for UK websites. Product works, people who try it like it. But for months nobody cared enough to try it.

Here's what I changed.

The mistake

My pitch was: "First analytics platform built for DUAA 2025 compliance."

Problem: nobody knows what DUAA 2025 is. I was asking people to learn about a law before they could care about my product. Most just scrolled past.

I was also throwing eight value props at people and targeting every audience I could think of. Solo founder budget, spread across everyone, reaching nobody.

The fix

I looked at what competitors own. GA owns "the default." Plausible owns "simple and private." Fathom owns "privacy for serious businesses."

Nobody owns data accuracy.

So I flipped it.

Before: "First UK-native analytics platform built for DUAA 2025 compliance"

After: "Cookie banners hide half your visitors. Recorde shows them all, legally."

Same product. Completely different reaction. Orbit Media found GA4 with a consent banner only captures about 55% of actual traffic. That stat does the heavy lifting now. The regulation is the how, not the what.

I also narrowed to one audience (UK SaaS founders) and cut to one core message instead of eight.

The takeaway

If your product is built around a regulation or technical standard, don't lead with it. Lead with the pain it solves. Nobody wakes up caring about DUAA 2025. Every founder has looked at their analytics and thought the numbers don't add up. Start there.

Pick one audience. Cut your value props ruthlessly. If you can't explain why someone should care in one sentence, you've got too many messages competing.

Still early. Still solo. But the conversations are completely different now. recorde.io if you want to check it out.

Happy to answer questions.

This lands. I kept leading with “private crypto tracker” and mostly got polite nods. The real pain people had was not wanting another account syncing holdings to a server. Once I said it plainly — local tracking, free for four coins, with an optional one-time Pro upgrade — conversations got much less vague. Same product, different door. Nice cut from the regulation pitch to the cookie-banner pain.

Great pivot. The before/after comparison alone makes this post worth bookmarking. Good luck with the UK SaaS founder niche.
