I got some startup hate mail just now.

I got some hate mail just now πŸ™„

"StampFans is stupid. Why would a Creator want to go back to paper?"

Hmm. Well consider this...

Every week, my kids get magazines in the mail.

Highlights, Ranger Rick, National Geographic. A few others.

Their grandparents pay for these subscriptions. They make great gifts!

Anyways...

My kids look at every single page of every single issue. Not kidding.

They bring the magazines to their rooms. Or set them on the coffee table to show their friends. They have a special place on their shelves for issues they really like and want to read again later.

They even pore over entire issues many times over – sometimes years after they arrived.

Their magazines (and their books) are a feature of their life at home, showing up all over and enriching their minds with articles and pictures to think about.

This only happens because the content is on paper.

And no, this isn't just because they're kids and don't have phones or tablets. This is true for all of us.

When we like a book or a magazine or a physical photo, we keep it. We display it. We put it somewhere we'll see it so we can read (or view) it again later, or maybe where a friend or family member might see it and pick it up themselves.

...

When was the last time you happened to see an old email lying around that you forgot you loved? Maybe on your side-table or kitchen counter?

(Heck, when was the last time you even re-read ANY email you got a year ago?)

I'm guessing that doesn't happen very often πŸ˜‰

...

When we pour ourselves into something we create, we want people to pay attention. We want our audience to think deeply about what we're saying. We want them to spend time with our content – not just skim-then-delete.

But the fact is, when a reader gets your writing via email, she most likely does not open that email.

And even if she DOES open it, she most likely doesn't read the whole thing.

And even if she DOES read the whole thing, she most likely reads it very quickly.

And when she's done reading it, she will almost certainly NEVER read it again.

Call me crazy, but I think your content is worth a little bit more than that.

And call me even crazier, but I've never got a physical letter from someone I like and just threw it in the trash 😎

...

So there's my answer to the hater.

StampFans isn't about going backwards. It's about connecting on a deeper, more human level. It's about your content becoming a treasured, touch-and-feel part of your audience's lives – not just another row in a Gmail client.
