I hate writing, but need content!

If you don't actually care about quality, it's easy to just hire content mill writers. But if you need it to be high-quality writing, it's much more difficult because you need to sift through a lot of the terrible writers that flood the freelance sites.

If you don't like to write just create cool simple open source projects.

Not everyone has to write.

I'm currently not a fan of writing so I created a collection of useful things and that has done way better than any post I could have wrote.

Yes you can hire. Many on Upwork do just writing. And Fiverr. Also posting on Craigslist still works. I hired 10 expat writers 2 years ago by posting in Asian cities craigslist.

Also there are great digital nomad communities in Bali who do a lot of writing.

I have done technical writing (usually technical in the sense of 'contains a lot of code') for a number of different people/companies and I'm starting to look at how to scale this as I get a lot more requests than I have time to fulfill (alongside my full time job).

My take is

• Content marketing is usually shallow / shoved down the throats of readers
• Content marketing also usually has high budgets
• Technical writers (in the true sense of people writing about technical topics to educate others) usually do it as a hobby
• Readers / learners hate paying for content

So I am creating a new model where

• The company who has a product/service that they want to promote pays a technical team of writers, designers, editors, publishers, etc
• The team puts together (unbiased) content showing how to use the company's product/service to solve a specific problem in a highly technical way (i.e the opposite of most 'content marketing' which are just plugs)
• The content is open sourced and contributes to free education and the open web.

I've had great success with finding a "freelance editor" if you will. I dump all of the technical ideas in a google doc, then they go over and prepare it for public consumption. In my experience, a good editor can present even really technical content (that they might not have first-hand experience with) very professionally, as long as they have good inputs.

My workflow is something like:

• prepare a non-technical outline to help get the message across to the freelancer
• stream-of-consciousness braindump in google docs all the stuff (as technical as you want) that needs to go in the article
• the editor goes over, and basically restructures (according to the initial outline), rewrites, suggests, etc.
• review changes
• boom, done! You got yourself some primo content.

No matter how you approach it, though, it'll always take some effort to produce good content. If you offload it completely to somebody who has no first-hand experience with the topic, the outcome will not be good (and it will show. There are SO many cheap, content-milled articles out there).

What do you hate about writing, specifically? For me it's the tediousness of physically writing (by hand) or typing out my thoughts, word for word.

What do you think of a transcription tool that automatically transcribes audio recordings you make on your phone then automatically uploading them to your Wordpress site/blog?

You could also produce other types of content like videos, infographics or even podcasts as alternative content to articles/blog posts.
