Freelance work has been a little thin lately and I've had an itch to scratch. I've toyed with the idea of making a job site for some time and I finally went ahead and built one. It involved a lot of learning and struggle but it's almost done. I've aligned all the ducks, I'm just waiting for the domain's MX records to propagate so that I can receive emails. MVP complete.
I don't have much experience in business, apart from freelancing. Building the site, I frequently wondered whether it was worth it or not. For what it is, it took a long time to build because I was dogged by doubt. Does anyone here recognise that?
As a piece of software, I'd be embarrassed to show the code to anyone right now. I had to forget about design just so I could get it finished. I kept having to remind myself that I was well below Martin Fowler's design payoff line.
Now that I've built it, I realise I now need the business to go with it.
It's a job site. Another in a myriad of jobsites. It's called bigbig.tech and it advertises marketing and sales positions in the tech and software industries.
I know there's nothing special about it at the moment – there's lots of opportunity to pivot – but I have an idea about what I want to achieve.
I want to advertise jobs that reach out to a certain type of person:
In doing so, I want to connect with advertisers who regard the above list as virtues.
The site is a blank page right now. There is no business yet.
I've just set up a Twitter account. If you could spare a moment to follow me, I would be truly grateful.
I'm on twitter as: @bigbigtech
I'll endeavour to post updates.
