Hi Indie Hackers 👋🏻
I'm Thomas, the founder of Uneed, a Product Hunt alternative.
A few days ago, a famous Indie Hacker came to my DMs to suggest an idea: charging to write product reviews.
I've thought about it a lot since then. At first, I was worried about many things: what if I don't like the products I review? What if people are disappointed?
I finally took the plunge last week and announced this new offer in Uneed's weekly newsletter.
A few hours later, I had already made 4 sales
It was a trigger for me: it could work! And it's an offer that fits perfectly with my project and what I like to do. I spent a lot of time testing new tools, and I needed content for my blog.
Today, I released the first review, about FounderPal. I announced it on Twitter, and a few hours later, I had made 6 new sales.
For $99 (For now, I'm going to raise prices tomorrow!), you get a complete review of your product, written by hand and focused on the keyword "[your_product] review".
The goal is to rank on Google with "[your_product] review", to increase your brand awareness and your potential customers' trust.
You also benefit from a solid backlink, a bit of traffic and well, a great review 😄.
If all goes well, this offer should have rapid compounding effects: the more reviews I publish, the more visible they will be on Google, and the more people will want theirs.
And now I'm going back to testing products and writing reviews 🥰 thank you for your attention and feel free to post a comment if you have any questions!
Hey thomas! those reviews i guess go in Google right? i am living in Bali now, and a friend does that for living, idk if actually on google or more platforms. But selling reviews is a real thing.
Congrats on your launching, i am checkin it out!
Already signed up for Uneed! and going to post my product on June! :)
Exactly :) if you search for "FounderPal" review on google, we're already 2nd!
I didn't know about this kind of business, I love it 😄 thank you!!
I wonder if this type of service give like a package deal for the reviews :D For example 55 reviews per month etc
I guess they do, or at least you could ask for a better price for it
great
Thanks 😊
Insightful! What kind of sales did you make?
Thanks :) what do you mean exactly?
I was wondering what kind of purchases they make. Do they buy products or maybe subscription packages on Uneed?
he reviews their product - they pay for it :)
Got it - thanks for clarifying Eyal!
@zahil Love it! Take an existing model & flip it in an unconventional way.
I'd love to have you on my podcast to talk about solopreneurship & going from zero to first sales if you'd be interested? It would also be a good way to get in front of a few thousand of your audience!
What do you think?
Hey Henry :)
I honestly be delighted 🙌🏻 but to be 100% transparent with you, my English isn't perfect, so I guess that would be your call 😅. You can reach me on Linkedin or Twitter (Thomas Sanlis) if you want to talk
Hey @zahil, I've sent a request over LinkedIn. Would love to get you on the show still. If you're keen, just book a session here for late June & I can share details over email

This approach inspired me, if I start a new AI product promotion service that contains a short experience of the product + a description of the product + a product outbound link submission (at least one high-powered outbound link and dozens of similar ai directory sites), and I package them all together, will there be an audience willing to pay?
I don't know 🤷🏻♂️
I think people are willing to pay for this because Uneed is already an established brand, and because the review isn't AI generated. The first review I published is already 2nd on google when you search for "FounderPal Review", and people are starting to know Uneed and trust the brand
But you can try 😄!
Also, you might want to add Marketing as a possible tag
Product's tag 😄? There's already a Marketing category
Ah I see, that makes sense :)
Brilliant! Let me know if you have too much work ;-)
Haha that could happen at some point 😂
