Hi everyone,
months ago I posted an idea about building a newsletter service similar to Substack or Revue but with a clear interface and the most important thing: use the Google Docs as editor because if offers more features than the Substack editor such as table, change text color, embed charts, collaborative editing and many more. The revenue model is a 8% fee I take when the user setup a paid subscription with Stripe.
I have almost finished the website but I need some feedback just to ensure that I'm not building a shitty copycat.
At the moment I have only screenshots because It's under development.
If you need more info please let me know.
I wish I knew more about Substack or Revue. Because I do not know about those services, I'll stick to what you are building. Because you are using Google Docs, I would focus on features that make organizing the newsletters in Google Docs easier. Google Docs already has the editing interface down, but they have a serious organization problem. I would focus on that.
That's why I decided to use Google just for the editor and the spreadsheet to export the subscribers. When you create a newsletter, the platform creates a new folder named after the "newsletter name" and then inside It organizes all the content. I did It also because of the privacy, so they don't have to export all the posts from my platform but they already have all the documents inside the folder in Google Drive. I've almost finished to integrate Stripe, then I just need to create a landing page.
Ah, ok. Now I understand better. It sounds like the Google Docs integration is a good idea and good for the MVP. I think I commented on the other post. Adding an alternative to author/organize everything from your app (v2 maybe) could be valuable as well.
Ah yes I saw the comment on the other post. That's why I chose Google Docs as editor, because I think for a writer is a wonderful tool and very easy to use and rich of features. In the future, if the platform goes well, I think I'll create my own editor more similar to Notion but optimized for emails.
Design are very light. When you say use google doc as editor, what do you mean by that ? Is it completely accessible (all google doc feature) within your app ?
When you create or edit a post, my service automatically opens a new page on Google Docs website where you can edit the post and then when you finish you can preview the content before sending. The second screenshot at the bottom is the review page, you don't see anything at the bottom because the post is already sent but usually there is a refresh button which pull the content from Google Docs using the API. You can decide to send now or schedule in the future.
Hun !
Interesting to start with. πͺπΎ
Iβm interested to try and provide feedback when itβs ready for test. π
Thank you very much. I'll let you know for sure when It's finished :)
