I realized my brain just doesn’t work in to-do lists

I’ve tried a lot of to-do and notes apps over the years.

They’re good. Some are really good.
But I kept falling off all of them.

It took me way too long to admit the obvious: my brain just doesn’t work in lists.

When things get even a bit complex, I need to see them. I group ideas, move them around, make some bigger, push others aside. That’s how I understand what matters.

So I ended up building a small macOS app for myself called Forma.

It’s basically an open canvas where you drop ideas as cards and arrange them visually:

  • bigger cards feel more important
  • things close together belong together
  • one card covering another usually means “do this first”

There’s no account, no sync, no clever AI. The app is ~3MB and costs $9.99 one-time.

I released it quietly and made the first few sales recently (honestly just tens so far). What surprised me more than the sales was the reaction:

Some people open it and immediately say “yeah, this isn’t for me”.
Others say “this feels… obvious?” and start dumping everything on the canvas.

That split made me realize this isn’t about being better than Notion or Things. It’s about a different way of thinking.

I’m curious: if you’re a visual thinker, does this click for you? if you’re not, what does work better for your brain?

this actually looks dope - but the barrier to download and install is high if I want to just try it out only....I like structure still and reminders + notifications, not clear if thats supported
