I tried posting the same content across 5 different platforms yesterday.

Here's why you might want to consider doing the same, or not.

I posted on ProductHunt, LinkedIn, Twitter, Reddit, and IndieHacker. Each place gave back differently:

  • LinkedIn brought in about around 1,000 views. It's good for professional stuff.
  • Reddit was huge with over 50,000 views. It loves deep dives.
  • IndieHacker and Twitter only got about 50 views each.
  • ProductHunt was quiet with no upvotes, but that's okay.

To put those numbers in perspective: my LinkedIn audience is a bit advanced, with over 7k followers, which is a lot more than the under 100 folks I have on Twitter, IndieHacker, or ProductHunt.

So, what did I learn?

  1. Change your message: Making your content fit each site can really help.
  2. Audience matters: Places like LinkedIn or Reddit have a crowd that digs deeper content.
  3. Be smart with content: Reusing it smartly can save time and still catch eyes. Reddit was my big win here.

It's like a mini Pareto effect in action—not exactly 80-20, but Reddit's success showed that focusing on the right spot can yield most of your results.

Focusing where it counts can really pay off.

But in the end spreading your word across different platforms can be quite unpredictable, yet the insights are gold. Keep it simple and see what clicks.

This is a really insightful post. We, at Mokkup.ai, currently have a streamlined process at our organization as well, where we target posting on LinkedIn, X, Instagram, and now TikTok, simultaneously (almost around the same time), with different captions and hashtags. LinkedIn: More informational
    Instagram/TikTok: Succinct, quirky.
    X: Professional, to the point.

This seems to bring us some traction and returns.

What kind of posts are you posting on Reddit, though? How does Reddit work as a marketing tool?

      yes absolutely
From my experience, what works best on Reddit is valuable content. You have to write interesting posts and not only promote your business...

    Very interesting!

How did you decide what/how/where to post on Reddit?

I've been thinking about that more and more, but I get a little hesitant because reddit definitely has a certain reputation.

I'm basically publishing almost everything I did.
So everytime I try something new on my projects, I'm sure someone will benefit to hear from my feedback.

I had the same doubts than you, and to some extent my fears are a bit true: the community is full of hate and negativity because the users feel anonymous...
But the key is to publish quality content (something that you would liked to read) and everything will be fine (don't just promote a project like that...)

Can you share some tips to grow on LinkedIn?

I appreciate you sharing your experience and insights on promoting your project across different platforms! Your observations are valuable and can be helpful for anyone looking to reach their target audience effectively. These are some key takeaways:

Platform-Specific Content: Tailoring your message and content to each platform's audience is crucial. Reddit users, for example, appreciate in-depth dives, while LinkedIn might be better suited for professional presentations.

Audience Matters: Understanding your target audience and their preferred platforms is essential. While LinkedIn might have brought in more views initially, Reddit's deeper-diving nature resonated better with your project.

Content Repurposing: Smartly repurposing content across platforms can save time and effort while still engaging audiences. Adapting your Reddit post for other platforms might have yielded additional views.

Focus on High-Impact Platforms: Your experience highlights the "Pareto Principle" in action. Focusing on platforms like Reddit, which drove most of your engagement, can be more efficient than spreading yourself thin across less fruitful channels.

Unpredictability and Insights: While results can be unpredictable, the insights gained are valuable. Analyzing platform performance helps you refine your approach and identify the best channels for your specific project.

Experiment and Simplify: Keep your approach simple and experiment across different platforms to see what resonates best with your audience.

Overall, your experience offers valuable lessons for anyone looking to effectively promote their project online. By understanding different platforms, tailoring content, and focusing on high-impact channels, you can maximize your reach and engagement.
