Problem:
I was recently asked to join a sales meeting with an analytics company. I had just signed up for a free account and the sales rep wanted to meet so I said sure.
On the call, as soon as the rep realized I was a startup with a minimal number of seats, the rep seemed to lose interest in talking to me. On top of that, after asking several questions I was told to go to their pricing page and got the sense the rep wanted to end the call ASAP. Not the best sales experience.
After all this, I thought if I was a leader at this company, I'd want to know if my reps were acting this way. So I considered using the contact page but decided against it, then maybe going on LinkedIn but again decided against it. I didn't want to throw the sales rep under the bus, just provide feedback about the sales process...
Solution:
So if this was my company, how would I solve this problem?
Just like customer service emails include a "rate your experience" surveys in the email signature, I thought why not add a "rate your sales experience" survey to every sales email.
The survey would be a simple survey to measure the sales rep product knowledge, courteousness along with a few other sales related metrics.
Survey results would be loaded into a dashboard for management to review.
Two main benefits are obvious. First, identify negative sales experiences to correct them. You could also make the case that if a rep knows they are getting measures on metrics like courteousness, my negative experience would never have occurred in the first place.
Second, you can identify improvement opportunities for sales reps. For instance, if a sales rep's metrics show that person could use better product knowledge, they can be coached up.
What do you think about this idea?
What is the likelihood that you would have purchased the analytics tool in this particular case?
If the tool existed, if I was aware of it, and if I had sales reps, I would have purchased it.
This is the sort of thing that can lead you to lose customers/prospects and if your sales reps are behaving this way it's bound to negatively impact your business at some point.
