I'm a fraud, and you?😩

Hi folks!

Have you ever thought "I'm a fraud"?

"While for some people, impostor syndrome can fuel feelings of motivation to achieve, this usually comes at a cost in the form of constant anxiety"

I over-prepare or work much harder than necessary to "make sure" that nobody finds out I'm not prepared to get my job done.

I'm Head of Marketing in a SaaS company with a HUGE potential and sometimes I feel like I'm not the right person to lead the Marketing and Growth department.

Knowledge, experience, languages, contacts, charisma... Are the main points that I think I should improve. But it's almost impossible to prioritize all.

So my question is...

How do you beat the Imposter Syndrome?

Read case studies, experiment, learn and repeat.

If you were a doctor or a lawyer or real estate agent there would have been certifications and tests to get a license. You would have had a defined course of study, test prep, etc. You are in charge of "growth" and marketing for a SaaS - everything about that job title involves operating in a cutting-edge environment filled with gurus, case studies, tips and tricks, half-truths, outrageous claims, and snake oil. Growth and marketing online are about 20 years old, SaaS didn't hit its stride till the last 10 years. My question is who works in your position who doesn't have imposter syndrome? Why don't they? They should. I don't think someone in your role "beats" it, I think you live with it and try to keep up and keep learning because that's all anyone in tech can do.

Great advice, it's true that there is a lot of fluff in the Growth ecosystem. Gurus selling courses, Advisors with less experience than you, etc...

What I try is to follow the advice from marketing, growth, and business people behind top companies like Dave Gerhardt (https://www.linkedin.com/in/davegerhardt) or Patrick Campbell (https://twitter.com/patticus)

      Curious about your story!
