Hey everyone,
I've been working towards creating a consistent source of income with programming. I've done some freelance work and picked up enough to feel confident enough to build something from scratch. I also really love the idea of building something in public.
So, I am building a tool for insurance agencies, as that is my full-time job. At the least, it will be an SMS tool specifically for insurance agencies. Depending on how things go, I may build out an entire CRM. (I am building with Laravel.)
I have a couple questions for the community:
I'm excited to see what has helped you along the way!
I've tried Twitter & LinkedIn. Twitter is overcrowded in terms of building in public which is both good and bad.
LinkedIn on the contrary is a nouvelle territory, based on your niche, I would think is more profitable for you to post in there.
For me, the aspect that is the most useful when building in public is to have a close circle of friends that you support each other!
Hey @SantiagoM, this is super helpful. You're the 2nd person to suggest LinkedIn, which I hadn't really considered. I will definitely give it a try.
Are there any practices that you typically share while building in public?
Specifically for LinkedIn. The header matters a lot!
Post around 3 times a week, consider that the algorithm favors local interactions.
Mix posting with engaging, and DMs, I like to ask for support to my posts. Low hit rate but enough yet!
Since I'm a Software Engineer I usually share the development of the product, UX seems to be working good these weeks. Starting next week I'll start sharing short videos from an interview.
So maybe, I would advise you to start contacting leaders in the insurance industry that would be a good way to drive up an audience.
Huge help! Thank you!
Where you thinking of focusing on @jesselnieman? LinkedIn seems like a slam dunk for this market
Hey @Guacaswole, that's a great question! I plan to share a lot on Twitter for sure. I am open to looking at LinkedIn as well. That's a great point.
