IndieHackers trounced Producthunt
With no following or outreach to any other developers hunters, etc, I dropped FormCaster.co on Product hunt last week, and made a post about it here on Indiehackers.
As you can see from the complete traffic logs for the last 6 days, IndieHackers turned out in a much larger group than PH. End of first day FormCaster only had 19 upvotes on PH so it was not a good showing at all.
Producthunt of course has the potential to be huge, but unless you have traction, a following, or really appeal with a novel factor, a smaller group of people who are commuted to sharing the journey and process with you will show up much more predictably.
So thank you all for checking out FormCaster.co when it launched last week!
I like what this experiment shows. IH is for very early stage start ups to get initial and more personal feedback. Only after you build a community, following or subscribers then you can do a proper (successful) launch on PH.
It’s why I’m waiting on putting my SaaS on PH until I can guarantee a couple hundred upvotes.
Same thought here. Also, is your target audience frequenting PH you have to ask.
One of my good friends has gotten two of his startups to the top of PH—both in the design space, one recently and the other a few years ago. His experience is that it was a big deal a few years ago but PH doesn't move the needle that much anymore, even if you hit #1.
I prefer IH over PH nowadays to discover new SAASes that could help me succeed.
This was my experience as well. I made it to #4 with a project almost 5 years ago and it generated hundreds of dollars in orders that day, and multi month delivery orders in the low 6 six figures range.
Did you really get 0 conversions, or was your conversion tracking not setup?
And if you really got 0 conversions, then the main takeaway from your experiment is not visitor numbers, but that your landing page, value prop and/or even entire idea has critical problems that you should look into asap...
Nah I just didn't have goal completion set up on Fathom.

To be clear you didn't make the homepage of PH, so the fact you got as much traffic as you did is pretty good.
I'd use the chat widget on the PH site to talk to the community team, ask them to review your submission and schedule a launch if possible.
