As a serial entrepreneur, I'm always working on something. Some side hustle, some new idea, some venture I'm looking to get off the ground.
I learned a long time ago that you have to take "swings." Not every one will be a base hit or a home run, but if you don't show up to the plate, you're definitely not going anywhere except the locker room.
ChopSuey is my next serious venture. And we're here to solve a problem for Creators just like me.
I say Creators because that feels and sounds different than an IndieHacker or an entrepreneur. No matter where you are in your product's timeline, you are creating something at the end of the day.
Code, graphics, wireframes, marketing copy, etc. You are a Creator.
And if you're like me, you're creating something every month, and it could be on multiple platforms.
I've written a book on Amazon and Gumroad; I have a passion for creating men's rings on Etsy, I have smaller micro-SaaS projects on Stripe, and I even have a small YouTube channel generating $50/month.
I love creating. It fuels my happiness and gives me tremendous amounts of energy. It led to the very first SaaS that I successfully bootstrapped to $74K MRR.
I want more home runs like that, and I'm starting again my scratching my own niche.
ChopSuey provides an analytical revenue dashboard for Creators.
When I wake up in the morning now, I only have to check one dashboard to gauge how my Creator empire is going.
As you may or may not know, I'm a non-tech founder. And this time around, I brought in my friend Jack to help me build ChopSuey.
I'll write more later about the co-founder experience and all the steps we went through, but if you're dying to know how we split the venture... we're going 50/50 on ChopSuey. And I couldn't be happier.
Jack's code chops are amazing, and he whipped this MVP together fast for us. He's a perfectionist, and I'm looking forward to growing revenue for this project with him.
Our goal is to get north of $40k MRR before the end of this year.
Hey Travis. Sounds really interesting what you are building here. Have creators used a similar tool so far or do they actually rely on the dashboards of the respective platforms like Twitch, YouTube, etc.? Anyway - if you still need beta testers I would be happy to support you as such.
We are looking to bring on beta testers if you are interested. We really need you to have creator revenue coming from two platforms in this case. :-)
Pricing custom-tailored is interesting. Why exactly $ 1000 was chosen as the bar for the free tier?
I've read a lot of articles on freemium vs paid subscriptions outright and I think there are pros and cons. In our case, we want adoption quick. The $1,000 line is really just a judgment call on our part. Most creators are not generating revenue beyond that, but once they are....we feel they are catching momentum and will be more interested in paying to see the metrics that matter to them the most. We shall see how it turns out and I'll be sure to blog about it!
Thanks for the answer!
