Introducing LangChase: A Fair Platform for Online Language Teaching
Hey there Indie Hacking friends 👋,
I've been studying Korean for a while and I have been using online platforms like Preply or italki to find Korean tutors. Seeing the commissions taken by these platforms and practices employed I was quite appalled. I realized that it's nearly impossible to make a living by purely teaching online using only these platforms (I was dabbling with the thought of teaching Hebrew, my native language, on the side). With these commissions, fund withdrawal fees, and taxes, teachers are staring down the barrel of losing at worst something like 50% of their income.
I want to change that.
Therefore, I have started working on the idea and validation of LangChase. An online language teaching and learning platform which is designed to be fair and offer the best opportunities for teachers to make a living, and for students to learn their target language. I recently posted about the landing page, asking for feedback. The signups to the waitlist are my measure of validation before committing 100% of my time to building.
The basic gist of the main features are:
- Take lower commissions on booked lessons (5%-10%) - The math indicates this is possible while still being a lucrative business
- Allow teachers to sell AI-enhanced content packages from their curriculums so they can make passive income on their content
- Improved quality measurements and standards of tutors
- Improve over the UI and UX of existing platforms
