I am building a AI blog generator for Local AEO and SEO (www.getpaigent.com please check if it relates to you or feel interested and give your feedback I am happy to get your thoughts).
Have built a MVP and trying to get pilot users to test and shape the product and thought APPsumo as one of the channel to get the initial pilot users and did some research on APPsumo and the review is mixed they charge big cut from sales as commission , promote life time deals most, and majority rant about the support ticket flood. Now I am skeptical about whether even if the target is pilot users do app sumo add value to the effort.
I am looking for inputs, hacks and ways which founders from Indiehackers community which you tried failed and succeeded. Your experience and inputs adds more value to Paigent
thanks for support from the community members
Congrats on sharing this question openly — I think a lot of early SaaS founders quietly struggle with the same decision.
One thing I'd consider is that AppSumo can be a great distribution channel, but the bigger question is whether the offer and positioning are strong enough before sending a large audience there.
A launch can bring attention, but attention doesn't automatically create long-term customers. The founders who seem to benefit most usually know exactly who their ideal user is, what painful problem they're solving, and what happens after the deal ends.
I'd be curious about how you've positioned the product beyond the discount itself. What makes someone think "I need this" rather than "this is a good deal"?
There may be a few messaging opportunities hidden in the homepage and offer structure. If useful, I do a $10 homepage audit where I document conversion friction points and practical improvements.
