Issue with Updating Profile Pictures

Judging by the number of similar issues in the past few days, I am not the only facing an avatar caching problem.

I checked and I found that avatars are getting cached in the browser for a day (84600s). I'm certain there is a reason for making it that way but isn't there any other solution? I would expect servers to inform browsers on changes made to static assets like images.

Right now, I think it is the singular UX issue I have on IH.
