Launch: What features do your users want? - a new site that also boosts growth

Hi

I've just launched a landing page for my new site idea:

WhatFeatures.io

Why I came up with the idea:

I was working on a previous product and had a strong vision of what I'd like to create, but I had no idea which features to build first and more importantly what features my users wanted first

How this app solves the problem:

  • You'll be able to create a feature showcase where users can UpVote their favourite features and you can reward them for voting (e.g. discount code, free content)
  • Feature Showcases with the most upvotes will be features on the homepage and in the Newsletter

Benefits:

  • Engage with your users and understand their preferences
  • Build excitement in your future features
  • Get new users!

You can sign up to the waitlist here:

WhatFeatures.io

Please let me know what you think to the idea
Thanks!

Uclusion started out with a similar idea only instead of up / down vote customers were given a currency to spend. As it turned out, there are a whole host of reasons that this is not a viable way to make feature decisions.

    1. Existing customers don't predict new growth customers
    2. Assumes feature work over product stability etc.
    3. Customers don't align - each customer may actually have a different use case and so the feature doesn't really help
    4. That vision thing - sometimes a larger change in direction is required than just tweaks by features
    5. Customers can only vote on what you present them

It was only after attending Pulse and meeting customer success people that we began to understand some of the issues that prevent this kind of application from being useful. That said Canny.io and UserVoice do make a living on it but it will never be as popular as one would think.

Hi - Thanks very much for your response. This is really helpful feedback and I've been considering it over night.

I still think there is a product in this that leans more towards growth through future feature engagement, as opposed to focusing on a tool that helps founders/PMs decide the direction of the product - I therefore need to do some work on positioning.

I will continue to post on IH as the product pivots and would welcome your feedback in the future
