Licensing software to sell?
I have a partner in a business where he has developed some related software. I am thinking about asking him if he is interested in licensing this to me to make multi-tenant and sell (he currently uses this internally only). I'm ok with either paying him on a per seat basis, or having him a minority partner. Does anyone have any experience licensing software that they may upgrade and sell? Thanks!
Are you talking about a computer software or a SaaS/Code that you would like to re-use on your platform?
It would be source code, although I may actually re-write a lot of it. He also has a huge amount of domain knowledge. He just has a lot of things going on, I think if he is too involved the project will go too slow.
Makes sense. I own a Product called PrivJs (privjs.com) that helps distribute code for open-core software. Currently we only support NPM packages.
But as per licensing, it would be a good idea if you could propose a value to the developer. Maybe a monthly commit would make him interested in the deal.
As per the pricing - I leave it up to you guys to decide on it. Just keep in mind how much time & money it would save you, and make an offer
