LinkedIn Group Audience Acquisition Strategy

I’ve operated in the LinkedIn Group space since it was cool, and still do even though it’s NOT cool anymore. However, I’ve bought and sold groups, launched newsletters from them, supported already existing newsletters with them etc.

In January 2021, I sold 2 newsletters launched from LI groups (6,000+ and 5400 subs) and never paid a dime for a subscriber (outside of the initial group purchase). I brought in consulting gigs since I was recognized as a leader in the space and my overall professional profile and the brand was completely enhanced (more connections, conversations, opportunities).

I have no tech/dev skills, and I would consider myself more of a relationship manager than I do marketer. My brands / courses are not typically geared toward those people either.

Despite the “uncool” factor, LinkedIn IS the most professional and trusted social network.

It's not an uncommon practice to partner, cross-pollinate, and tap into others audiences - and with the reach/specificity of targeting and size - this is a market I love to play in.

The specificity of LI targeting / algorithm does all the top of funnel lead gen which allows for me to focus on the content / engagement of the audience - which is where I prefer to operate.

So much focus, newsletters especially, goes toward growth, communities are booming, and this method helps ease the pressure for #s, while also adding the community aspect.

Although drastically shuddered over the recent 5 years, LI groups are still growing and offer access to communicating w group members.

I still run a group (372K members) and a newsletter in the same name.

I receive 300 new members a day, which allows for the opportunity to grow the newsletter through several different tools/channels.

Finding, evaluating, and acquiring these groups is not easy. But there is a ton of value in this structure of pairing a newsletter with a Linkedin group.

There are also several ways to automate/optimize the process of converting members to newsletters and ways to utilize and engage with the group to improve the newsletter.

Last week, I ran a 2 hour workshop with a media organization who runs 20+ newsletters and is seeking an alternative option for accelerated growth ($1,000 project)… It went awesome and now I’m considering launching as a course/workshop/community to teach newsletter operators how to do the same.

Is this something you’d pay to learn?

Let me know and if so, how would you like to learn it ?

  • live workshop/community cohort style
  • outright buy presentation/doc
  • individual coach/consulting
